Biography – Doug Sparks
I began studying A Course In Miracles over 40 years ago in 1976, the year the Course was published. Like many of us in the west, I had arrived at adulthood with a deep feeling of dissatisfaction, and many questions, (not to mention grievances) about the Bible, Christianity, God, and Jesus. I was looking for an alternative explanation for the meaning of our lives in the world. As I look back, I think of this time, my early thirties, as the “window shopping” phase of my spiritual maturation. So A Course In Miracles got tossed into the hopper along with a profusion of other explorations.
It was in the 1980s that my understanding of the Course began to develop and deepen. This came about as a direct result of my introduction to the work of Dr. Kenneth Wapnick and the Foundation for A Course In Miracles. Having identified the Course as my path, and Kenneth as my teacher, the direction of my learning became clear.
My greatest interest, my passion really, has become studying and teaching the Course. I’ve led a weekly study group (for 35 years) and taught many workshops: in-person, online, and at retreats. Internalizing the thought system of the Course has become my focus. Having learned that “forgiveness offers everything I want”, practicing forgiveness consistently has shown itself to be the means for establishing a peace that cannot be disturbed.
